Dr. Smood Helps You Get In A Good Mood Naturally

Updated: Jan 4, 2019

Disclaimer:  I was invited to attend a tasting event for Dr. Smood in exchange for writing a post on the blog.  All my opinions are my own.

Smart food for a good mood.  That’s the slogan for Dr. Smood, an organic, non-dairy, and non-GMO café that specializes in creating nutritious meals that contain only high quality ingredients that make our bodies look and feel better.  None of their products are made with artificial or processed ingredients.

Their focus is on finding new and better ways to transform your life through healthier food. This is the best approach to take when trying to become healthier and not taking pills or eating manufactured foods that claim to do the same.

I was excited to be able to attend a private menu tasting for local influencers at their Wynwood location.  When I arrived, the vibe inside the café was very laid back and there was music playing that instantly gave me a good vibe about the café.  It’s definitely a good place to go and get some work done comfortably or to get together with friends and chat.

Menu Tasting

Dr. Smood’s in-house nutritionist, Olivia, explained the food and drinks that we were tasting and the ingredients they were made with. We tasted samples of their juices, salads, sandwiches, coffee, and dessert.

Non-Dairy Mylks

They make all of their non-dairy mylks in house from nuts like cashews and Brazil nuts. I tasted their cacao mylk which is their version of chocolate milk.  It’s made with Brazil nuts and cacao.  It was very tasty and tasted just like the chocolate milk I used to drink as a child but without the processed sugar.

Juices

They make a variety of juices and I tasted the slimmer juice and organic fruit juice number 3.  The slimmer was made with grapefruit, lemon, green coffee, Garcinia Cambogia, stevia, and acai powder.  We drank this as a palate cleanser before we tasted the food.

The fruit juice was made with pineapple, orange, strawberry, and pear.  Both juices were delicious but my favorite of the two was the fruit juice number 3 because it had more of a fruity flavor than the slimmer.

Salads

I sampled some of their kale and quinoa salads.  The kale salad was filled with seeds and came with a creamy dressing that enhanced the flavor of the salad.  We also tried their quinoa salad that was flavored with a mix of Indian spices such as curry and tandoori.  If you enjoy curry and Indian spices then this salad is for you.

Sandwiches

There were three types of sandwiches that were distributed vegan, prosciutto, and tuna.  I only tasted the vegan sandwich which was both creamy and tasty.  I enjoyed it so much that I bought a whole vegan sandwich to take home and eat for dinner.

Olivia mentioned that the bread they use for the sandwiches isn’t just any type of bread from a bakery.  The bread is made specifically to stabilize your blood sugar and reduce sweet cravings to keep you full while feeling light.  I didn’t have that stuffed feeling after eating this sandwich and I didn’t have the craving to want to eat something else afterwards.

Coffee

I tried some of their cold brew coffee.  What made this cold brew coffee different is that it’s infused with chaga mushroom.  Chaga mushroom is a type of mushroom that is a great immune booster and can be made into a tea.  The coffee was served black and I’m not a fan of black coffee so this wasn’t my favorite to drink but Olivia suggested to add some of the cacao mylk.  It did change the taste of the coffee slightly but there wasn’t enough room in my sample cup to add more of the cacao mylk.  I could still taste more of the coffee rather than a blend of the coffee and cacao mylk.

Dessert

Even though they offer desserts, they are made with ingredients that are good for you and do not contain any processed sugar in them.  This gives you the opportunity to still eat something that’s good for you and at the same time you get to enjoy a sweet treat.  I tasted one of their desserts that was made with raw cacao, dates, and nuts.  The dates were used as a sweetener for the dessert and I could taste the cacao in it which tastes just like dark chocolate.

Olivia also spoke on the importance of healthy eating and gave us some takeaways.

Key Takeaways

Learn How To Reset

It’s all about eating a proper ratio of clean vs unclean ingredients.  You need to know how to balance the two and know how to reset your body.  Unfortunately, we go from eating one poison to another and we don’t know how any of it is affecting us.  If we know what foods to eat after we’ve fallen off the healthy wagon, then we can counteract the effects those unhealthy foods can do to our bodies in the long run.

Cacao and Chocolate Are Not the Same

Cacao is the pure plant unprocessed.  It has to be organic and non-GMO to be called cacao.

Chocolate is manufactured cacao that is added to some other means such as milk or sugar.  If it doesn’t say cacao on it, then it has been processed.  This is why you won’t see anything that says chocolate on their menu only cacao.

Eat Mushrooms

The function of the mushroom is to kill and free radicals in the body. When you eat a fungus like a mushroom, you are introducing an element that your body now has to fight against. The body learns how to fight it resulting in a stronger immune system.

The Sooner You Incorporate Wellness Into Your Daily Life, The Better

The more chemicals we eat the more chemicals we need to get rid of.  It becomes a vicious cycle that is difficult to break if we don’t know how to use food as a way to naturally cure ourselves.  By eating clean regularly you will have less chemicals in your system which will make you feel better.

I enjoyed myself at the tasting and recommend Dr. Smood to anyone who is looking for a café that serves food that not only tastes good, but has a positive impact on your body.

I will warn you that prices of the food at Dr. Smood are a little high but what you receive in return is a high quality high nutrient product that is not processed or contains any chemicals.  You get what you pay for.  If price is a concern just remember that when you buy foods that are cheap in price its usually made with cheap ingredients that your body doesn’t recognize as real food.  The damage cheap foods will do to your body over time will cost you more money in the long run than if you eat natural ingredients now that won’t damage your body in the future.
